Sofia Gantois was introduced to the magnificent world of music when she was 9 years old: she started attending Henk Lauwers’ classes at the “Gemeentelijke Academie voor muziek, woord en dans” in Zaventem (Belgium). She started playing in the in the Vlaams-Brabant Symphonic Orchestra, where she played the solo part in Chr. W. Gluck’s “Concerto in G” at the age of fourteen.

In 2011, Sofia took part in a flute contest, the ‘Dexia Classics’ and became laureate of it. In the same year, she started her higher musical studies at the Royal Conservatory of Liège in Toon Fret’s flute course. 2 years later, Sofia took part in the “National Flute Competition for Students” in Ittevoort, where she reached the finals, together with 5 other bachelor students.

In 2016, Sofia graduated from the Conservatory of Liège with biggest distinction and participated in the competition "Classic Academy". In the final, she performed the concerto in d minor of CPE Bach as a soloist with the Orchestre Philharmonique Royal de Liège directed by Christian Arming. She was given the price of the orchestra and had the chance to play the “House Music” Concerto for flute and orchestra of Matthew Hindson in June 2017, again accompanied by the OPRL, this time directed by Julien Masmondet.

That same year, Sofia received The Holland Outgoing Scholarship and studied for 3 months in Mexico city with Anibal Robles Kelly. She also obtained a Master of Music degree, cum laude, at the Fontys School of Arts in Tilburg (Netherlands), where she studied with Valerie Debaele. Later that year, Sofia became lecturer at the chamber Music department of the Royal Conservatory of Liège, where she teaches in the class of Vincent Royer.

Sofia plays concerts in Germany, Holland, Croatia, Mexico and Belgium, in halls like Bozar and Flagey in Bruxelles and Concertgebouw in Amsterdam. This can be solo, with ensembles like the ensemble Hopper, of which she is part or SPECTRA Ensemble or with orchestras like Frascati Symphonic, Sinfonietta or Orchestre Philharmonic Royal de Liège, amongst others. She has a passion for contemporary music and often participates in the creation of new works from, for example, Stefan Hejdrowski and François Couvreur.

During her studies in Liège and Tilburg she took master classes with Aldo Baerten, Berten D'Hollander, Barthold Kuijken, Pierre-Yves Artaud, Helen Bledsoe, Loïc Schneider, Emily Beynon, Gaby Pas-Van Riet, Anna Garzuly and Wally Haze amongst others.
