Nour Outojane

Nour Outojane (also Noor or Nur) enjoys research, whether through reading and writing or through - primarly - digital illustration, video, and installation art. In 2020, they graduated from Maastricht University, where they pursued an interdisciplinary curriculum in philosophy, sociology, cultural studies, and gender studies, all while working on video projects, some of which were, and others personal. Back in Brussels, they co-founded a collective of Afro-descendant women* and non-binary individuals, with the goal of developing collaborative and horizontal creative practices, which itself became a subject of exploration. They also worked as a researcher, facilitator, and digital illustrator in the anti-racist nonprofit sector before returning to the Netherlands in 2021 to pursue a Master's in Visual Arts at the Sandberg Institute. This program explored imagination as a method for decoding, decolonizing, and liberating representations of blackness in art and design. Through their work, Noor is particularly interested in how issues of race, gender, identity, power, oppression, and visuality intersect with the creation and dissemination of knowledge. Loup Kass and Nour Outojane are two trans non-binary individuals who have worked on the topics of archives in different personal and collective projects, including the His/Her/Their Stories project, in collaboration with the Mothers & Daughters collective, from December 2021 to September 2023. His/Her/Their Stories was, on one hand, a project that questioned and reflected on the nature of archives, their power, and the conditions of their collection and production. On the other hand, it was a project aimed at gathering, activating, and creating archives related to trans* individuals in Belgium, both intangible and tangible. These archives occupied the collective, interactive, and ever-evolving space that accompanied the Mohters & Daughters bar during July 2022 in Brussels.
