The project Anamnèse coloniale [“Colonial Anamnesis”] is being carried out by a wide range of artist-researchers who work on forms of contemporary transmission and rewriting of colonial history using home movies made from the end of the 19th century to the dawn of independence. The artistic practices that have grown up and around these family archives have prompted a collective process of thinking about the role of memory and forgetting in these images.
